Terms & Conditions

Black Sand Publishing Inc (BSP) and Amina Collection are pleased to announce a Call For Artists (CFA) opportunity. This CFA will be an online, open-competition opportunity to allow Hawaii artists to collaborate with Amina Collection to produce branded merchandise to raise funds to support Hawaii Food Bank.  Besides awareness and marketing visibility of the art througout Japan, a Stipend will be paid to winning Artists.

SCHEDULE

  • October 19, 2021 - First day to submit CFA application
  • October 26, 2021 - Last day to submit CFA application
  • October 31 - entries judged and winners awarded contract
  • November - finalize art, provide art files to Amina
  • Dec 2021 - Dec 2022 - produciton and sale of merchandise in Japan
  • Donation to Hawai Food Bank will be progress payments from Dec '21 to Dec '22.

AWARDS

Licensing Contract - Licensing agreement with Amina Collection for up to 5 Hawaii artists.  Artwork will be licensed for use on merchandise sold in Japan.  Merchandise is being produced to primarily support fund raising for the Hawaii Food Bank.  Artist will receive marketing exposure in Japan via products and Amina marketing campaigns.  Licensing agreements may also include a cash stipend, however the focus is non-profit fund raising and artist exposure.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Artist must be over 18 years old, living and working in Hawaii
  • Artist must be professional (“actively selling art”) 
  • Art mediums accepted: {paintings, digital art, photography}
  • No nudity, obscenity, violence, etc, all art must be tasteful and be a positive representation of Hawaii’s image.
  • Original (source) art for licensing should be no older than 2 years.
  • Art must not be previously shown in Japan
  • Artist must have created the art and own all copyrights, and be able and willing to license usage rights to Amina Collection.  Artist will retain ownership of all copyrights.

SUBMISSION

  • One Application per person only (up to 3 files may be submitted with each Application)
  • Submissions may be revised up to the final deadline date
  • Digital files submitted must be high-quality, un-cropped captures with sharp detail and accurate color, with no large watermarks or overlay graphics (images should be cropped to not show frames or any background).  The files do not have to be "print-ready" sizes.
  • Judges will evaluate and grade each Artists' submission, and the highest graded Artists will be selected for negotiation and award of prizes. Judges’ selections and decisions will be final. In the event any selected Artist is unable to complete a licensing agreement, provide original art or accept a Grand Prize, an alternate Artist will be selected.

JUDGING & CRITERIA

  • Judges will include Amina Collection and Black Sand Publishing staff.
  • Scoring criteria will include the following:
    • Adherence to the Theme ("Art That Promotes Hawaii's Beauty");
    • Originality of concept
    • Compelling idea (emotional impact)
    • Creativity
    • Composition
    • Technique (craftsmenship)
    • Commercial viablity to sell to a Japanese audience

ARTWORK

  • Artists to provide hi-res digital art files
  • Amina Collection will manage all merchandise production costs
  • Merchandise products may include - bags, phone cases, note cards and/or other popular products.
  • Artist credit - artist signature/logo will be visible on all products
  • Copyright - Artist will continue to own full art Copyright

FINANCIALS

  • Fees & Costs
    • Non-refundable submission fee of $10 USD
      • Upon selection, Artist and Amina Collection will execute a license and define art specifications.
      • All production costs to be paid by Amina
      • Assistance digitizing artwork (if needed) is available from Chromaco with a CFA discount
  • Stipends
    • A cash stipend is under consideration but not decided.
  • Design costs
    • Artist is responsible to provide high resolution, print-ready art files to Amina Collection
    • No reimbursement for design work, painting, submission or transport

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Artist agrees their biography and art images may be used by Amina Collection and Black Sand Publishing for marketing purposes – web sites, social media, public media, advertising, store signage.
